A WEEKEND IN PALM SPRINGS
It
was one of those magical California experiences that you only see in
movies. The setting was
Joan
Crawford's former estate, 99 Palms. The guests were a loosely formed
crowd of old and new friends - all of whom got along fabulously.
There
was good energy that weekend. The weather was so hot that there was
little differentiation
between
the temperature of the swimming pool, and the hot breezes that dried
you right as you got out.
Billie
Holliday songs wafted gently through the house, as bright red bouganvillea
swirled around the
legs of a piano. The house was not perfectly kept. Leaves and other bits of nature left their |
charming
designs upon the Oriental rug. All this belied the fact that this would
be the
last
weekend ever at the house. The owners were silently fighting all
weekend,
and within a month, the house was put up for sale.
